Preparing kids for the future
Preparing kids for the future
Our kids are growing up at a distance: behind screens, away from people, away from nature. Curiosity fades first. Then connection, purpose, and courage follow. Inner Lab helps children build them back, practiced rather than taught, in the real world and through play.
Founded by Ankur Gupta, Inner Lab is based in San Jose, California, and offers The Curiosity Workshops for Kids.
The Curiosity Workshops for Kids
A seven-week program for children 7 to 11
Every child is born curious. Then screens, busy schedules, and instant answers slowly educate them out of it. The Curiosity Workshops are seven weekend mornings to bring the wonder back, and with it, connection, purpose, and courage. No screens, no right answers. Time outdoors, real conversations with local artisans, and one ordinary object that each child follows all the way back to the hands that made it.
A curious child is never bored, because everything around them is worth a second look. Never lonely, because curiosity is a doorway into people. Willing to sit with hard things, because not knowing stops being uncomfortable. Parents see it first in small ways: sticking with something longer, asking a stranger a question, trying new things without needing to get it right, and, over time, becoming someone with the clarity and confidence to make a difference.
Seven Sundays, Sep 13 to Oct 25, 9 to 11 AM. San Jose. Six to eight children. $497.
Ankur Gupta is an entrepreneur, teacher, and mentor. Through his company, Inner Lab, he created a groundbreaking program for 7- to 11-year-old children called The Curiosity Workshops for Kids. The program aims to help children learn and master the one thing devices and AI never will: being human.
Over the past twenty years, he has worked with hundreds of children in classrooms and after-school programs, and has led workshops for both children and families, continually perfecting the program.
Ankur Gupta is an IIT Delhi engineer and Cornell University MBA. He spent fifteen years in data and AI development in Silicon Valley before leaving a senior leadership role to pursue his passion for building a unique child development tool. This passion led him to start Inner Lab, where he now researches and teaches all classes.
Inner Lab grew out of his experiences raising his two children and twenty years of testing the concepts with children and families. The Curiosity Workshops for Kids is a seven-week program featuring small groups of six to eight children. The program focuses on four areas of child development: curiosity, connection, purpose, and courage.
The Curiosity Workshops for Kids helps young graduates become curious again and less reliant on, or captive to, technology. They tend to be more curious, try new things without fear, make their own choices instead of following the crowd, aim higher for excellence, and have greater confidence as people who can make a difference. Results also show stronger family bonds through improved communication.
Ankur Gupta has plans to grow and expand the current program to include Curiosity Workshops for 12- to 16-year-old children, along with parents and teachers.
A few Sunday evenings I open my home to families who are curious about this work. Ninety minutes, whole family welcome. Most parents and children leave with something to talk about on the drive home.
